Mornings are Different

Some mornings I would just wake up happy and refreshed, nut not this morning.  This morning I bring with me the weight of the news last night.  IT is not hard to accept the news that my youngest sibling has Stage IIB Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.  It seems that now a days, I get to experience a lot of flashbacks about the experiences that I had with my brother.

It is encouraging to know that his oncologist is optimistic about the treatment, and that there is a good chance of getting cured.  I do pray that his immune system would be able to take the treatment that my brother would be able to take this.

Why We Should Avoid Floyd

Just finished watching the controversial win of Floyd Mayweather against Victor Ortiz. And it was really disappointing, verging on pathetic even. And people wonder why Floyd is still given fights? It is just sad that some people organizes fights based on boxers capacity to rack in crowds. And now the unsuspecting crowds are drawn in hoping to watch a fight worth their hard earned money, and they get a lemon of a fight.

These kinds of fight blemishes the institution that these fighters represents, and is a slap to the faces of the rest of the fighters in the past that held the institution up. As a consolation we have pre-fights even much more worth watching than the main event. But that's just it, supposedly, the main fight is why the spectators flock to and watch. And so if the promoters and the fight bodies continue to support such fights, we'd expect a decline in the over-all worth / value of this sport. A sport that is measured by each individual's capabilities is degraded to a mere form of entertainment that a lot of us would not appreciate.

In the Philippines we have a type of satirical play which we call "moro-moro" wherein the play usually depicts the fight between Christians and Muslims with the Christians always coming out as the victor, to prove superiority and dominance over the Muslim. And since the outcome of these plays are already predictable, we now have the term "moro-moo" coined for every "staged" event. I have now come to believe that Floyd Mayweather have mastered the art of "moro-moro". He had just presented a fight worth the level of moro-moro and I believe that by continuing to support him, he woild be doing the same for his next fights.

It is just the same with all other things that we would want to get rid off. If we dicontinue the use and support of or the use of, we would only expect a loss in interest of / value of this person. I still stand by the thought to totally avoid Floyd and just don't give him the benefit of a fight with Manny Pacquiao. Let him earn the right to fight and not us being drawn by all his tactics. With this kind of fights Floyd is not worth a cent. Unfortunately all he should be getting is what he has now, 50 Cent!

An Ode to Sparta

Most of us have probably watched the movie "300" and have been amazed by the power of few. It tells about King Leonidas and a group of 300 Spartans who held the fort from the Persian mob under the rule of King Xerxes. They have made use of their capabilities as soldiers and their knowledge of war and tactics. And at the end defeated only by a traitor who gave away precious information about their location.

Anyone who would hear their songs and read about their story would be awed by their bravery. But something more important should be realized about how their legend came about. And that is what motivated them to victory. Their victory in the battles they fought led to every Greek realizing what they have always known all along, freedom comes at no price, not even death. That each individual values their freedom and would fight and give everything for it not to be taken away.

And so it goes with the shift of society now a days. Countries under dictatorship rule has its people feeling the need for their freedom to be given back to them. That a dictators rule, no matter how effective, still goes against the natural law that governs mankind. And that is that we were given freewill and freedom of choice. Anyone who has these two threatened will feel the urge to fight for it as it is our God-given right. And no one has the right nor the power to take it away from anyone. And though Sparta has long gone from existence, their story lives on till today. As they have proven time and again that man is a free soul, and it will stay that way in years to come.
